What is a Geographical Indication (GI), and which Confirel products carry one?

A Geographical Indication is a quality label - recognised both under Cambodian national registration and EU Regulation (EU) No. 1151/2012 - for products whose distinctive quality or reputation is essentially attributable to their place of origin. Kampot Pepper and Kampong Speu Palm Sugar are Confirel's two GI-protected products: both were recognised nationally in Cambodia in 2010, with Kampot Pepper registered in the EU in 2016 and Kampong Speu Palm Sugar in 2019.

Which countries recognise Confirel's organic certification?

Confirel holds organic certification under four separate national and regional systems, each independently audited: the USDA National Organic Program (United States), EU Organic (European Union, control body Ecocert SAS KH-BIO-154), JAS (Japan), and the MAFRA organic standard (South Korea).

Who audits and issues these certifications?

All of Confirel's certifications are issued and audited by independent accredited third parties - never self-declared. Organic certifications are issued by Ecocert (Ecocert SAS and Ecocert Japan Ltd.); the Geographical Indications are recognised by the Kampot Pepper Promotion Association, the Association for the Promotion of Kampong Speu Palm Sugar, and Cambodia's Ministry of Commerce; Korean organic certification is issued by MAFRA; and ISO 22000:2018 is certified by United Registrar of Systems (URS), a UKAS-accredited body. Our USDA Organic certification is independently verifiable on the USDA Organic Integrity Database.

What does the ISO 22000:2018 certification cover?

ISO 22000:2018 certifies Confirel's factory-wide food safety management system at its Phnom Penh production facility, audited by United Registrar of Systems (URS), a UKAS-accredited certification body and IAF Multilateral Recognition Arrangement member.
